What it is
The Delta SkyMiles Platinum is an American Express card earning Delta SkyMiles. Its ongoing value can outweigh the annual fee, making it a potential keeper past year one. The annual Companion Certificate (domestic Main Cabin round-trip) is the keeper hook — one use roughly covers the fee, so this is a hold-for-the-companion card more than a churn-and-burn. Cell phone protection and the Resy/Delta Stays/rideshare credits round it out. No trip cancellation insurance (delay only). Tier-family rule: a Reserve you hold or have held blocks the Platinum bonus.

One Companion Certificate per year after renewal: round-trip DOMESTIC Main Cabin (fare classes L/U/T); companion pays only ~$22–$250 taxes/fees. Editorial face value ~$400 (conservative vs the ~$500 the issuer/USCCG cite for a typical domestic RT). is_estimated — value swings with fare booked. Util ~0.5: real keeper hook but requires a Delta domestic RT to redeem.
- Delta Stays credit$150per year
$150/yr Delta Stays statement credit (personal Platinum tier). Narrow booking channel → low util.
- Resy credit$120per year
$10/mo (up to $120/yr) at qualifying US Resy restaurants, enrollment required. Util ~0.4: usable but limited to Resy-participating venues + monthly use-it-or-lose-it.
- Rideshare credit$120per year
$10/mo US rideshare (Uber/Lyft/Curb/Alto), enrollment required. Platinum has NO 12-month wait (unlike Gold), so it counts Y1. Util ~0.4 for monthly enrollment friction.
- Free checked bag$70per year
First (and now second) checked bag free on Delta. Same key/value as Gold.
